all that remains, by bear mccreary
So I downloaded this Kara/Lee fanmix a couple days ago here from the awesome [info]solestella and included in it was a song by Bear McCreary that he actually wrote for the film 'Rest Stop'. Yeah, I've never heard of it either. ANYWAY, most importantly, I realized when I was listening to it for the first time that it's actually the song that plays in Joe's Bar at the end of Taking a Break From All Your Worries. I know a lot of shippers have issues with that episode (I personally love it) but after listening and attempting to transcribe the lyrics, it makes that final scene even more deliciously painful. It is SO Kara/Lee (which Bear actually made a note of in his blog. Discuss!

Check out the song if you're interested. It's excellent, and Blues-y, and I think I've listened to it about 25 times since yesterday. Maybe you can help me figure out the lyrics I'm unsure of.

all that remains
music by Bear McCreary
performed by Raya Yarbrough

inside my mind
shades of visions
fading photographs
of you, of me
blurred black and white
as they flicker past

I watch silently
I wait estranged
passively observe
the past(?) returns
echoing words
what you said to me

memories of better days
are all that remains
one by one, without a trace
they fade away

bittersweet aftertaste
is all that remains
and every time the more I've lost
the less I've gained

I walk alone (?)
retrace my steps, where did I go wrong?
you've gone, moved on
seems I've been here, too many times before

memories of better days
are all that remains
one by one without a trace
they fade away

the bittersweet aftertaste
is all that remains
and every time the more I've lost
the less I've gained

they fade, too grey
such clear visions of what might have been
I keep them close
all that remains

Schrödinger's Kitten: Lee/Kara - are you alive?[info]micewerefurious on September 5th, 2008 05:21 am (UTC)
Very nice job with the transcribing! Just to throw in my 2 cents, I think the word in the second line might be "shades"? "shades of visions / fading photographs" kinda works to my mind. I've listened a number of times, and that's my take, anyway. :-) Thanks so much for doing this! You totally rock my world; it was totally infuriating not having the lyrics in front of me, and now I do!

Oh, and also, listening again I thought maybe the line in the 5th stanza might be "now I'm alone" rather than "I walk alone"? I don't know, but that's what it sounds like to me? Maybe someone else has an opinion tho. :-)

And okay, lol, one more thing! I'm totally Columbo today. For the line you've got as "seems I've been here, so many times before" - I think the "so" might be "too" instead. :-)

Ah, thank you for the lyrical corrections! It seems so simple now that you've said it but I listened to it so many times and just couldn't get the right word!

You know, last week I went to see Mamma Mia with my mum, and afterwards we're singing ABBA songs and she starts in with "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme a man until midnight". And I'm all - hang on, what now? And she's all, "Well isn't that the line?" *crickets* So we dug out ABBA's greatest hits and put the song on, and of course straight away she was like, "Huh. I guess she does say after". So I'm like - "So...you've been singing the wrong words for 30 years?" And she's like, "Hmm. Apparently so!" We shared a giggle and it was quite the bonding moment. :-)

I also transcribed the lyrics (since I couldn't find them anywhere on the internet) and I agree with micewerefurious...I think it's "shades of visions" and "too many times before". However, I do hear "I walk alone" and not "I'm alone", but then again English is not my mother tongue so I could be wrong.

Oh and thanks for the shout out, I feel all special now =)

Oh, shit, I didn't know you transcribed the lyrics! Did I miss that post?

Either way, thank you for helping me fix up the lyrics! Yours make more sense. :D
